28 Jun 2003 | Rebecka Liljeberg in a new role! Unfortunately this is late information, since her appearance in the TV series Vera med flera (Vera and others) has already been aired on Swedish television this spring. She has just a small role, playing a girl with the same name as herself, seen only for a few seconds in a theatre act. The youth series, made directly for TV by Catti Edfeldt (Eva & Adam), is also released on DVD. Here are some pictures from it, captured by Ole of oebfa.com. Click on the http://www.scangen.se/images/rebecka to get a larger view. Ole will most likely be able to help you get the DVD. Happy birthday Harry Teodor! One year ago today Rebecka gave birth to her firstborn child. Greetings and all the best wishes of course also to Alexander and Rebecka!
| 13 Jun 2003 | Bear's Kiss may get cinema release in Germany in October, Kathrine Bergmann of Pandora Film says. Thanks to Peter for this information. There is still no news of any release (of any kind) in Rebecka's home country Sweden. This is very strange, to say the least. Meanwhile, the film has already been shown on TV... Australian cable channel Showtime picked it up and aired it recently. If you read this and live in Australia, sad to say, but it is not on their schedule any longer. | ||||||
| 9 Mar 2003 On TV: SVT1 (Sweden) June 5 at 20:00 Sherdil (Rebecka Liljeberg) Slovenian TV Eva & Adam series Mondays at 17:30 (currently running in April) | Unfortunately the DVD mentioned by me in the January 5 news was a bootleg! I am really sorry for passing on such information without properly checking the sources. Anyway, now it appears (fingers crossed) that Bear's Kiss is indeed released legally in Russia. This time the DVD also has English speech. There is even a legal VideoCD with the film in DivX (MPEG4) available. You can place your order at Rushall, Amalgama, CTB or oebdvd.tk.

4 Feb 2003 | More success for Lukas Moodysson and Lilja 4-ever! Yesterday the annual Swedish Film Awards took place in Stockholm, and, as most of us had expected, it became a huge success for Lilja 4-ever. The film won in 5 out of the 6 categories where it was nominated: Best Film, Best Director (Lukas Moodysson), Best Script (Lukas Moodysson), Best Lead Actress (Oksana Akinshina) and Best Photo (Ulf Brantås). The story (in Swedish): Aftonbladet | Svenska Dagbladet | Expressen
| Not that good news however regarding Bear's Kiss. The theatre release in Spain and France have been pulled back, and no new dates have been set. Thanks to Anne for the clarification. | |||||||
| 14 Jan 2003 |
I have been informed of theatre release for Bear's Kiss in some countries. The film will open in Switzerland 23 January, Spain 30 January and in France 26 March. Still nothing on possible release in Sweden, from what I hear from my Memfis Film contact. Some of us had also hoped the film would be shown at the Gothenburg Film Festival, but that was not to happen unfortunately. If you live in Thailand however, you will be able to see Bear's Kiss at the Bangkok Film Festival. Screenings will be 17 January at 18:30 and 18 January at 11:00 local time. If it is the same film... The cast presented makes you wonder! Thanks to all contributors, none mentioned, none forgotten.
| 5 Jan 2003 NEW YEAR! | Surprising news arrive from Russia! Less than two months after the premiere in the theatres, Bear's Kiss is released on DVD and VHS. This is early by any standard, and one can only speculate about the reason for it. The DVD (PAL/no regional encoding, dubbed in Russian, no subtitles) was released by Premier Digital on Christmas Eve, December 24. You can order your copy from RBC Online (US based) or, if you live in Russia, from RusHall. Also, Ole in Norway will soon have it in stock and you can place your order at oebdvd.tk. Thanks to Nikolay and Ole for the news.

| 15 Dec 2002 On TV: ZDF, Germany Dec 31 at 11.00 Sherdil (1999) (Rebecka Liljeberg, Sebastian Hulthén, Hanna Alström) | Still no further information about possible release of Bear's Kiss in many countries. Regarding Sweden a decision is likely to be made early next year, according to a reliable source. The official trailer for Bear's Kiss is now available. Check out the streaming video at the Fortissimo site, or click here to watch it instantly in your Media Player. No question about who the star of the film is, even though Sergei Bodrov do get some attention also! Wanna download this trailer and the Korean clip mentioned earlier? You're in luck! They will both be available shortly at oebfa.com in the Clips and Trailer sections of that site. Enjoy! Merry Moodysson Christmas in Swedish television

| 30 Nov 2002 | Did you know that Russian super pop duo Tatu are inspired by Fucking Åmål? Well, with the lesbian image and on-stage kissing act it's not a big surprise that Agnes and Elin would be great role models for Yulia and Lena! The girls actually have a song entitled Show Me Love on their new album, and they are said to have been very happy when Lukas Moodysson included Nas ne dagoniat on the Lilja 4-ever soundtrack. These songs and of course the mega hit All the things she said are on the album 200 km/h in the wrong lane that was released here in Sweden a month ago. <<<< Get the album and the single from cdon.com (ships to Scandinavia and the Netherlands) | ||||||
28 Nov 2002 | Today Bear's Kiss opens in the cinemas in Russia. The Russian co-producer CTB Film presents the film with related articles on their website (in Russian, translated here to English). Most thrilling are several new high resolution pictures from the film. Two of them you can also see on this page. Reviews in the Russian press (Russian links translated with Babelfish) Watch a video clip of Bear's Kiss at the Korean site Film 2.0, or use this direct link to see the streaming video (opens in your Media Player). The clip shows the first meeting between Lola and the human incarnation of the bear Misha.

| 15 Nov 2002 | Over a month and no update! Not much news around about Rebecka or the film Bear's Kiss, I'm afraid. I guess Rebecka is enjoying her time with little Teodor, soon five months old, and doesn't have any immediate plans for new film engagements. She also has her studies to think about. With so many areas of interest it must be difficult to choose university courses. Will it be medicine or something else? There are actually some small things to say about Bear's Kiss. Fortissimo now has information about distributors in a few countries: A-Films (The Netherlands), Cineart (Belgium, Luxemburg), Gaga Communications (Japan), Golden Scene (Hong Kong), Prooptiki S.A. (Greece) and Shapira Films (Israel). The previously set release date in Switzerland by Pathé Films has been taken back, and will be announced at a later date. Pathé also distributes Lilja 4-ever, which will open February 20 in the Alp country. Regarding festivals, Bear's Kiss will compete in the World Cinema section in Pusan, South Korea, 14 - 23 November. It is shown tomorrow (November 16) in the MegaBox5 theatre at 20:00 and on November 21 in the Busan1 theatre at 20:00 (local time). The film was also screened at the MIFED market 4 - 7 november. The reported (by Fortissimo and by me) participation in the Haifa Film Festival has however not been confirmed from the official Haifa site. Congratulations to my friend Peter and his Bear's Kiss site for becoming official website for the film! Yes, it's true. Check out the link from Fortissimo's site. Cool! This must give you a lot of money, right, Peter? Off-topic as it is, but I must also mention that Lukas Moodysson's Lilja 4-ever will be the Swedish nominee for the Academy Awards prize for best foreign-language film! Let's keep all fingers crossed that it will make it into the final four (or is it five) contestants. Also something to look forward to for people able to watch Swedish SVT1 is Filmkrönikan in two weeks time on September 28 at 21:30. The program moves to London and follows Moodysson as Lilja 4-ever makes it grand premiere in Great Britain at the London Film Festival! | ||||||
| 10 Oct 2002 On TV: SVT1, Sweden Oct 23 at 21.30 Där regnbågen slutar (1999) (Göran Stangertz, Camilla Lundén, Rolf Lassgård, Pernilla August, Rebecka Liljeberg) SVT1, Sweden Oct 26 at 21.15 Födelsedagen (2000) (Göran Stangertz, Camilla Lundén, Börje Ahlstedt, Pernilla August, Rebecka Liljeberg, Lena Endre) Both films are directed by Richard Hobert. | The screening of Bear's Kiss in Hamburg on September 28 became an emotional event with Sergei Bodrov addressing the festival audience with a speech in memory of his son, tragically killed in the glacier slide in the Caucasus. The film goes on to be shown at the film festivals in Haifa, Israel, in October and Pusan, South Korea, in November (source Fortissimo). Releases in the cinemas around Europe are still an uncertain issue. Following Italy and Russia (November), only Switzerland is yet confirmed. No distributor is yet assigned in Sweden, but Sonet or Sandrew/Metronome would be the likely choices, according to Memfis Film. Please also note that Delphi Film-Verleih is not distributor in Germany, as stated in the news on September 26. Incorrect information was given on the German Cinema website at the time. The Internet Movie Database has a recently updated biography of Rebecka Liljeberg, written by an anonymous person (not this webmaster!). | ||||||

Rumours say it may even change into a Moodysson site.
| 13 Sep 2002 | Today Bear's Kiss was shown at the Toronto Film Festival. It did not receive much attention and was not even mentioned in the daily festival news magazine, except for screening times. Only director Sergei Bodrov attended the festival. Also today the film opened in the theatres in Italy as the first country in Europe. Thanks to Luca for his picture of the Italian street poster! Reviews in Italian are available at Gli Spietati and KW Cinema, where also a short video clip (Real Player), shot in Uddevalla and dubbed in Italian, can be found. | ||||||

| The Venice film festival showing and world premiere of Bear's Kiss took place yesterday at Lido, and was followed by a press conference, interviews with director and actors, and a photocall session. In the picture we see the team posing for the cameras. Surrounding director Sergei Bodrov are, from left to right, the actors Maurizio Donadoni, Silvio Orlando, Ariadna Gil, Rebecka Liljeberg, Joachim Król and Keith Allen. The official festival site has streaming videos of the photocall and the "catwalk" later the same day. RaiSat has videos of the press conferences. The official photos are taken by Photomovie, and a few of the shots of the people of Bear's Kiss can be found on their site. The film got a mixed reception by the critics. It is a sweet and quite entertaining film, but lacks the artistic qualities that would make it a hot contender for the Golden Lion prize, one critic said. It is also much more conventional than many other contributions. The performance of the actors were however praised and especially the performance by Rebecka Liljeberg as Lola. Reviews: Filmfestivals.com (in English) | Spiegel Online (in German) | Robert Mattheis (in German) | Estrella Digital (in Spanish) | Cinefestival (in Italian) | Domenico Barone (in Italian) There were also other news that would interest visitors of rebeckaliljeberg.tk. Rebecka came to Venice with her two months old son Teodor and her boyfriend since one and a half year, web designer and artist Alexander Skepp. She now has a busy schedule in Venice giving interviews, but will then return to her maternal leave and hope in a year to resume her studies with the goal to become a medical doctor. She has no plans to pursue an acting career, but, as she put it, "anything can happen" and "if a director would call...". The door is not shut for future films. Even a project with Lukas Moodysson is not out of the question, from what it appeared when the two reunited in front of the press yesterday. She also made clear that having a small child is no obstacle for taking a role in a future film. "The film companies always arrange so the children can come along to the shootings", she says. Cuddling with the bears was not the funniest part of the film, Rebecka says. Luckily the trainers were present all of the time. Even harder were the nude love scenes with Sergei Bodrov jr. "It was very difficult to be relaxed, it is a very uncomfortable situation to be naked with another person", she says. In all fairness, the director and the photographer also had to be naked! Director Sergei Bodrov has described the film as "a very emotional and erotic love story". This was a summary of several interviews and articles: Svenska Dagbladet (interview with Rebecka by Karoline Eriksson) | Aftonbladet (interview with Lukas and Rebecka) | TT Spektra Peter has translated these articles into English on his Bear's Kiss site. The videos of the photocall and the catwalk are available for download at www2.megamars.org. | ||||||
| 29 Aug 2002 | Tonight at 7.30 pm in the Sala Grande, the 59th Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica - the Film Biennale of Venice - will be opened by Director Moritz de Hadeln and Biennale President Franco Bernabè. The screening of Julie Taymor's Frida will follow.
The screening of Bear's Kiss in Toronto will be September 13 at 6.15 pm and September 14 at 8.45 am (for the early birds). Details about the cinema releases around Europe are beginning to turn up. So far it is said the film may open already in September in Italy (not yet confirmed). More trustworthy is the information about release in Russia in the middle of November, and in Switzerland a release date of January 23 2003 has been set by the distributor Monopole Pathé Films AG.

Today the official Venice program was released and as expected both Bear's Kiss and Lilja 4-ever are in the lineup. Bear's Kiss compete in the main event The Golden Lion and Lilja 4-ever in the San Marco competition. Another Scandinavian entry in that category is the Norwegian film Music for weddings and funerals with Swedish actress Lena Endre in the lead role. Read more about the Swedish invasion in Aftonbladet (in English here).
Expressen publishes the first pictures from Lilja 4-ever today. The film will open in the cinemas in Sweden on August 23. An English translation of the article can be found here.

Now we learn that also Lukas Moodysson's new film Lilja 4-ever will be in competition in Venice! Still not officially confirmed, we have to wait for the press conference in Rome July 23 (changed to July 30), but according to the news agency TT Spektra it is clear that Lilja 4-ever will be the first Swedish film for many years to compete in this prestigous festival.
Read the article in Swedish from Svenska Dagbladet's net edition July 15. I have posted an English translation on Sebastian Lukaszyk's discussion forum.
Rebecka Liljeberg on TV in USA and Germany: Fucking Åmål can be seen July 27 on German channel Premiere World at 22:05 CET. Starting August 7 KIKA will again show the series Eva & Adam, one episode each Wednesday at 16:30 CET. It is the episodes with Rebecka in a major role. Thanks to Frank for the information. Newsflash! Bear's Kiss will be in competition in Venice! Pandora Film has now confirmed this. I will return with more details later.
The July issue of the French film magazine Studio has a small interview with Sergei Bodrov sr, the director of Bear's Kiss. It's two months until the release of Bear's Kiss. How about a preview of one the scenes? :-) Picture yourself a camp fire late at night. An old woman speaking a strange language is sitting by the fire together with Lola (Rebecka Liljeberg) and Misha (Sergei Bodrov jr), the boy transformed from a bear. Lola translates to him what the woman is saying: She says you are a shapeshifter. You're changing from two worlds. Soon you will be able to see the scene!
More Rebecka news! The Swedish-dubbed version of T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous features Rebecka Liljeberg as the voice of Ally. Ally is like her father fascinated by the world of the dinosaurs that once ruled the earth. By accident she finds herself face to face with a live Tyrannosaurus Rex! If you live in Scandinavia or Holland you can order the Swedish version DVD from cdon.com. Click on the cover picture.

2002-06-23![]() | The Bear's Kiss soundtrack will include local music from most of the countries involved. The team recorded much of it in Georgia (in former Soviet Union, not USA). The sad Malagueña (flamenco from Malaga) was however recorded in Jerez in Spain (where part of the film also was shot) and sung by a 22 year old girl called Rocío Fernández from a gypsy background, and only accompanied by a single guitar. Rocío participated in the Jerez festival in March 2002. I hope to return to the soundtrack when I learn some more. For instance, there is also said to be an Icelandic connection to the soundtrack.
| ||||||
| 2002-06-14 | I have received some fresh Bear's Kiss information. Two days ago my contact spoke to director Sergei Bodrov. The film is now ready, and Sergei says everybody is very pleased with it. He also mentioned the soundtrack CD, which he thinks is great. At least some of the songs were recorded earlier this year in Spain and include a Flamenco (Malagueña), which is fantastic! The premiere may be at the festival in Venice early September, but that is not yet settled. The release in other countries might take a few more months.

An update on Lukas Moodysson: his new film Lilja 4-ever will be released August 23 in Sweden, it is of course produced by Memfis Film and the distributor is Sonet Film. Not much has been revealed about the story, but it is about two Russian teenagers called Lilja and Volodja, and a theme in the film is religion and God. Basic facts are given by Sonet and in the IMDB.
An interview with Lukas can be found in the latest issue of Månadsjournalen. It is not on the web, but apparantly he is talking about his new film as well as his latest book Vad gör jag här? (What am I doing here?). More on Lukas as a writer in the Books section. More Fucking Åmål (Show Me Love) on TV: between May 24 and June 29 there are several opportunities to see the film on US channel HBO. Danish DR2 is showing the film on Sunday May 26 at 20:25. In the Netherlands, the NED3 channel will air the film on May 30 at 20:30. As always, check your local listings.

| 2002-04-24 | Talk about disappointment. No Bear's Kiss and no Rebecka Liljeberg in Cannes! I guess the answer to one of the questions I wrote on April 16 is NO. I will try to dig up some information about what the problem is.
Anyway, even if the film had been selected for the festival, it would have been unlikely that Rebecka had participated. She has publicly stated that she never would return to Cannes! That was in her own article after the 1999 festival, which didn't make a very good impression on her... You find the link to the article in yesterday's news item.

2002-04-16![]() | Just eight days to go! April 24 the lineup for this year's Cannes festival will be announced. Will Bear's Kiss be one of the contestants? Is it good enough? Is it even finished? Is Sergei Bodrov pleased enough with it? Questions and more questions.
One disappointment so far for Scandinavian film is that Thomas Vinterberg's It's all about love starring wonderful Claire Danes (My So-Called Life) will not take part. This Danish film was supposed to be the big Scandinavian hope this year... but that was not to be. Finally a new Fucking Åmål website to announce. Check out www.pmlubov.narod.ru. | 2001-12-11 | Photographer Dan Uneken, living in Jerez, Spain, caught some of the action in Bear's Kiss with his camera, while the team shot the final scenes of the film in August. His homepage includes pictures of director Sergei Bodrov, the crew and of course the one and only Rebecka Liljeberg. But what about that red wig... Ouch! :) Thanks to Peter for this link.
2001-11-22![]() | The coming days people in Germany and USA will have the opportunity to see two films on TV featuring Rebecka Liljeberg. On Saturday November 24 the German channel KIKA will show Sherdil (1999) at noon 12:00. Rebecka plays Sanna, a school girl who rescues an Arabian stallion from slaughter. Not an exceptional film by any means, but if you like Rebecka or if you like horses it is a must.
| Two days later, in the early morning of November 26, the American channel MMAX will air Show Me Love at 4:10 AM. I'm not sure what time zone this is, so check your local program listings. Thanks to Ole in Norway for this information. | |||||||
| 2001-11-19 | Bully won the Bronze Horse prize for best film at the Stockholm Film Festival. With "fervent intensity and classic drama" this film by American Larry Clark (Kids) tells the story of young people in a less than flattering way. It is based on an actual event in 1993, when a group of teenagers killed another teen after years of bullying them. Rachel Miner of Bully also won the prize for best female actress. Best male actor became Paul Franklin Dano in L.I.E. Best script went to the Norwegian film Elling. | ||||||
| 2001-11-12 | Between November 8th and 18th the Stockholm International Film Festival takes place. 18 films hope to win the Bronze Horse (Bronshästen) prize for best film. The deciding jury includes among others Rebecka Liljeberg. | ||||||
2001-11-12![]() | Lukas Moodysson's new film, called Lilja 4-ever, is currently being shot in Estonia and shooting will continue in Trollhättan, Sweden. Not much is revealed about the story, but two young Russians play the leading characters, 16-year old Lilja (Oksana Akinshina) and 11-year old Vladimir (Artiom Bogucharskij). There will also be Swedish actors, but they are not yet disclosed. Any involvement by Rebecka Liljeberg in this production is pure speculation, but fellow Show Me Love-star Alexandra Dahlström works as Moodysson's assistant as well as interpreter (her mother is Russian). Oksana Akinshina played in Sergei Bodrov jr's film Sisters, which was shown at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, and since Bodrov himself plays in Bear's Kiss there is a possible connection with Rebecka. But again, pure speculation! :)
| 2001-11-12 | Bear's Kiss is scheduled for Cannes 2002 and will hit the cinemas some time mid or late 2002. | ||||||
